BONIFACIO (135 km - 2h10)
Perched on a limestone cliff, the ancient town is one of Corsica's most popular postcards.
The citadel is reminiscent of an Italian city, with its narrow, winding streets, gates and decrepit facades.
Below, the marina nestles in a 1.5 km fjord whose cliffs are pierced by caves and calanques. The King Aragon Staircase is well worth a visit, with its 187 steps descending 60 metres to the waves; the marine cemetery and its line of altars offer a panoramic view of Sardinia, 12 km away.
For the famous view of Bonifacio, its cliffs and the Grain de Sable, take the coastal path towards the Pertusato lighthouse.

SARTENE (145 km - 2 h45)
Perched atop a granite fortress, "the most Corsican of Corsican towns", according to Prosper Mérimée, fervently perpetuates medieval traditions (including the Catenacciu procession, the Way of the Cross in the old town) beneath its austere appearance of narrow streets and dark, shuttered houses overlooking the beautiful Rizzanese valley.
If you're interested in prehistory and, more specifically, megalithism, visit the Musée Départemental de Sartène: 250,000 archaeological objects (axes, iron points, statues...) are displayed in chronological order over an area of 1,400 m².
The region abounds in standing stones, and the archaeological site of Cauria (10 min. from Sartène) is well worth a visit! You'll discover alignments of menhirs, steles, granite statue-menhirs and one of Corsica's best-preserved dolmens.

Both terrestrial and marine, this nature reserve has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1975, for the beauty of its geological formations of caldera-like rock structures (corresponding to an ancient volcano that collapsed into the sea), coralligenous bio-concretions, endemic plants (such as the Posidonia meadow) and nesting seabirds (including the osprey).

CARGESE (140 km - 2h50)
Situated on the Punta di Carghjese at an altitude of almost 100 meters, this perched village, which closes off the Gulf of Sagone to the south and the Gulf of Peru to the north, is one of the most unique in Corsica.
The architecture of some of the buildings evokes its eventful past as an ancient Greek Orthodox town on Corsican soil, with its two churches facing each other: the Greek church of Saint-Spyridon and the Catholic church of the Assumption, built in the 19th century.
Back then, the priest celebrated mass alternately in one rite or the other; today, as guardians and reflections of the village's history, they contemplate each other in harmonious silence.

AJACCIO (135 km - 2h25)
A seaside resort with beautiful beaches in the town center, Ajaccio has a lot to offer with its superb terraced bars, its straw huts with their feet in the water, its old town, but also with its cultural sites such as the Fesh museum (with the most complete collection of Italian paintings after that of the Louvre) and the Maison Bonaparte (where Napoleon was born and which retraces the history of his family), its many churches including the Santa Maria Assunta cathedral (dating from the Renaissance).
In the surrounding area, there are many pleasant walks, such as the Chemin des Crêtes, the Capo di Feno beaches (the "Grand Capo", a large tourist beach, and the "Petit Capo", a smaller, very pleasant beach, little-known except by surfers; linked by a field), the Îles Sanguinaires (best seen at sunset)... and the A Cupulatta park, which is a center for the breeding and protection of turtles in Corsica.
